In order to make it as easy as possible for the fans to change, Garmin has retained all known functions, the operator logic, the menu management as well as the design as far as possible and has expanded a variety of new functions and technical innovations. The Garmin GPSMAP 62S now also controls the 'Custom Maps' function, which can also be used to display raster maps, satellite imagery or self-made plans. Ideal for paperless geocaching, ANT+ provides data transfer from device to device, and displays heart and cadence data, has a generous internal memory of up to 1.7 GB, and a state-of-the-art, high-speed GPS receiver with HotFix technology. The Garmin GPSMAP 62S really brings everything to the successes of its predecessors.

After the latest news from Garmin were almost all models with touch screen operation ("without buttons"), now the GPSmap 62 surprised a bit. Manfred Thaler, Product Manager Outdoor at Garmin, explains this: "You can not say that one or the other would be better. For a newcomer, strongly recommend a model with touchscreen operation. The menu is easier and more logical. However, if you are familiar with the buttons, it is much faster. The 62er is more suitable for intensive users and professionals as well as for users who need an easily readable display at any time. While Garmin retained the characteristics of a real workhorse connection possibility of an external antenna and next to the USB port also a serial connection was added to the GPSmap 62, especially in terms of computer performance and memory. In contrast to its predecessor, 400 MB of free memory with the GPSmap 62st (due to the preloaded leisure map of Europe) or 1.7 GB with the other models offer plenty of space for map tiles or custom maps. This feature, which was previously reserved for touch screen devices, is also supported by GPSmap 62. Self-made raster maps, location plans or satellite imagery no problem. For troubleshooting using this GPS see page 44 of Garmin GPSMAP 62S Manual.

Thanks to its large storage, the newcomer also has plenty of room for 2000 waypoints, 200 routes and 200 tracks with 10,000 track points. That is enough for really long trips. Battery run times of up to 20 hours also contribute to this. Geocachers are likely to enjoy the storage space for up to 5000 caches and the Paperless Geocaching feature. The Garmin GPSmap 62 is available in three configurations: The GPSmap 62 is the most basic device. The two GPSmap 62s and GPSmap 62st variants are additionally equipped with an electronic 3-axis compass and a barometric altimeter. They are therefore also suitable for hard outdoor operations or expeditions. In addition, these two models also master wireless communication with other Garmin devices via the energy-efficient transmission technology ANT+. With the help of corresponding accessories, this also allows the display of cardiac and cadence data. In the GPSmap 62st, Garmin also installs the Europe map on a 1: 100,000 scale in addition to the world's basic map. For main menu features and settings see page 18 of Garmin GPSMAP 62S Manual.
